The principals behind the contract cleaning services of Forte Commercial Cleaning have been in the industry since 2003. We came from a variety of unrelated fields, including Tax Accounting, Molecular Epidemiology, Management Consulting, Payroll, and Entertainment.
We started like most small-businesses: we had big audacious dreams and small pocketbooks. As we began, we made a concerted effort to listen and take action on feedback from our customers.
We have worked tirelessly to apply the philosophy of Andrew Grove, the former CEO of Hewlett Packard: “Only the Paranoid Survive.”
During our modest expansion across the country, we have worked hard to maintain our painstaking “paranoia” regarding our customer service. It has allowed us to stay ahead of our competitors in process and technology improvements.
Although we are paranoid, we also make sure to be real with ourselves, our franchise owners, and our customers. Over the years, our dedication to being real in the provision of contract cleaning services has given rise to what our core company values: ACCOUNTABILITY, TRUST, INNOVATION, and FUN.
Many of the things that we do are basic and simple. They are also present in all service-based companies in some form.
In order to provide high-quality contract cleaning services, we feel strongly that the following practices are essential:
Internally, we also undergo consistent employee reviews every six months, wherein honest and candid feedback about the individual’s work is assessed by an executive.
Executives themselves also are evaluated by their direct reports on their performance every six months. What is accountable up, must also be accountable down!
If we are candid and honest both internally and also with our customers, then over time, we will be able to build relationships of trust.
This is a high ideal, but an essential one if we are to continue providing the best contract cleaning services to our various customers in diverse industries.
In any industry where the market has become commoditized (as the commercial cleaning business has), customers demand and will switch to contract cleaning services that provide innovative solutions to their cleaning needs.
In the 80’s it was the adaptation of the backpack vacuum, in the 90’s it was adaptation of the “Team Cleaning” methodology and the popularity of the Franchise Owner Model.
This Franchise Owner model gained real steam in the 00’s with the addition of many companies which now are listed in the top of the Entrepreneur 500 Rankings.
As competition increases within commercial cleaning, only those who innovate will survive, a variation on Grove's theme of “Only the Paranoid Survive.”
Reading up on the brief history of the Vacuum, for example, is both entertaining and also illuminating when viewed in the context of the necessity of innovation within the contract cleaning industry.
We take our business seriously and we take our obligations seriously, but we try to make sure to keep it in the perspective.
Our working hours, after all, encompass a large amount of the time that we spend living. It's important that work has and maintains an element of fun throughout the years of our life that we dedicate to it.
Of course, fun cannot and should not come at the expense of responsibilities, but that doesn't fit our definition of "fun." That's what we call being irresponsible! Big difference.
This element of fun ties directly into the culture that we foster, which is to play hard and work harder. And in many instances, they can be accomplished simultaneously.
For our inspiration we look to the culture of fun that has been cultivated at Southwest Airlines. And notably, while Southwest’s competitors have declared bankruptcy multiple times over the last 30 years – Southwest has provided a strong and profitable business for its employees, customers, and community while simultaneously having fun! And for anyone that has ever ridden on a Southwest Flight, and compared it to their experience with other airlines…need we say more?
Over the next 100 years, we intend to do the same thing. County by county, state by state, and country by country we intend to provide our customers, employees, franchise owners, and community with a contract cleaning services company that is accountable, trustworthy, innovative, and fun!
